Lindsay Goodwin
Lindsay Goodwin is an American classical oil painter known for her atmospheric European interiors and luminous interpretations of light. Her work captures the romance and elegance of historic spaces — from Parisian cafés and château salons to candlelit dining rooms and grand hotels — rendered with a painterly sensitivity that merges realism with impressionistic warmth.
Raised in Southern California, Goodwin began studying classical drawing and oil painting at a young age at O’Neill’s Fine Arts in Malibu. By sixteen, she was teaching art classes herself while developing the technical foundations that would later define her career. Early exposure to the paintings of John Singer Sargent became a lasting influence on her artistic vision.
Goodwin later attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where she studied under noted painter Craig Nelson and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. During her final semester, she was recognized as one of the top emerging artists in her graduating class.
Her artistic voice fully emerged through extensive travels across France and Western Europe. Inspired by the decorative grandeur and historic atmosphere of European interiors, Goodwin developed a signature style rooted in the alla prima painting tradition — working quickly and directly to preserve freshness, mood, and the fleeting effects of light.
Goodwin’s paintings have received widespread recognition and have been featured in publications including Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air Magazine, American Art Review, Montecito Magazine, and the San Francisco Chronicle. She was notably selected for Southwest Art magazine’s “21 Under 31” feature recognizing exceptional emerging artists.
Throughout her career, she has received numerous awards from organizations including the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society and Oil Painters of America. Her work has also been juried into the California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibition.
Today, Lindsay Goodwin continues to paint and travel throughout Europe, creating timeless works that celebrate atmosphere, craftsmanship, history, and beauty. Her paintings are held in private collections throughout the United States and abroad..
Her work can be seen at Jones & Terwilliger Galleries in Palm Dessert and Carmel, CA. https://www.jones-terwilliger-galleries.com/artist/lindsay-goodwin
